The kit from the manufacturer HK models captures the twin-engine B-25H Mitchell in 1:32 scale. The edition carries the designation Gunships over CBI, that is, the attack version of the Mitchell as deployed in Southeast Asia. In 1:32 scale it is one of the largest models of an aircraft that can be built from injection-molded plastic, and the demands on display space and on the build sequence match that.
The B-25H was the attack version of the Mitchell derived from the standard medium bomber. It is characterized by a solid gun nose carrying a large-caliber cannon together with fixed machine guns, by side gun packs and by a reworked crew layout, because the position of the second pilot was dropped. The aim of the changes was to create an aircraft capable of attacking ground and shipping targets from low altitude. In the H version the placement of the upper gun turret forward, just behind the cockpit, and of the tail defensive gun position also became settled.
Build and paint the interior, the cockpit and the gunners' stations before you close the fuselage, because more is visible through the large glazing than you would expect. Check the engine nacelles and the radial engines for fit and hold them dry until the cement has taken hold. Set the long wings to the same dihedral angle according to the instructions and let them dry in position, otherwise the difference will show on a large model. Fill and sand the seams on the fuselage, checking the surface with a coat of filler primer between the coarse and the fine grits. Mask the glazing and bond it with cement for clear parts. Spray a gloss varnish before the decals and unify the surface with a matte one afterward.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
