This sheet in 1:32 scale covers a pair of North American B-25J medium bombers. The two subjects are joined by type and production block but divided by what they managed to do during the war. From one package the modeler can therefore build either a machine with a solid combat career or a veteran whose mission count was among the highest in its unit.
The first subject is the Mitchell with the serial number 43-27900 and the tail identification letter 6V. The name Bottoms Up II refers to an earlier machine of the same name and carries the ordinal two, as was usual with replacement aircraft. Its crew flew forty-five combat missions with it.
The second machine, 43-27653 with the letter 9C, was given the name Ruthie and its record is remarkable in two ways. It gathered one hundred and eight combat sorties, that is, more than twice as many as the first aircraft, and it has one enemy fighter shot down to its credit as well. A bomber that deals with a fighter was no common sight in any unit. A second point of interest goes with that: in its whole time in service it has a single early return from a mission to its name.
The letter J marks the most numerously built form of the Mitchell. It is told from the earlier versions above all by the glazed nose returned to the place of the fixed battery of cannons and by richer defensive armament. Both subjects on the sheet fall into the same production range, so the airframe shape is identical on both and the modeler does not have to deal with a conversion.
The sheet is printed and intended for transfer in water. Obtain the B-25J model in 1:32 scale separately, along with the shades for the base camouflage.
