A self-adhesive masking set in 1:32 scale for a plastic model of the North American B-25J Mitchell medium bomber. It is neither a kit nor a set of decals but an aid to painting: the masks have the shape of the framing of the glazing, they are stuck onto the clear part and removed once the paint has been sprayed. The double-sided form covers the outer as well as the inner side of the clear parts, so it is also possible to paint the frames that are seen looking out from the cockpit, and on a model with such large glazed areas that is a difference you notice in the result. The masks are cut for the HK Models kit.
The B-25 Mitchell was an American twin-engine medium bomber with twin fins and a crew of several; the J version was built in the largest numbers of the whole range. The glazing is spread over several places on the airframe, from the pilots' cockpit through the side windows to the gun positions. In 1:32 scale these areas are large enough for the interior to be clearly visible, and an unpainted inner frame then looks distracting.
Wash the clear part in lukewarm soapy water and let it dry so that the mask holds all around. With a double-sided set it pays to stick on and spray the inner masks first and to continue with the outer side only once they are dry: the parts are easier to hold that way and the finished coat does not rub off. Lift the masks out with the tip of a scalpel or with tweezers and press them down with a wooden stick, above all at the edges. Where the outline needs to be finished off, draw the cut with a new blade and no pressure. Spray in thin coats with a pause; one heavy coat creeps under the edge of the mask and the edge blurs. Remove the masks shortly after they are dry, pulling at an angle along the surface.
The package contains only the masking set. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
