A self-adhesive masking set from the Dead Design brand in 1:32 scale intended for spraying the US national insignia onto a model of the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk attack aircraft. Unlike the sister items of the same range, which deal with the cockpit glazing, this set is aimed at the markings of the aircraft. It is neither an aircraft kit nor decals, but masks. The exact number of pieces and sheets is not stated here.
The Skyhawk is a compact carrier-based attack aircraft with a delta wing. The US national marking takes the form of a star in a circular field with rectangular bars on either side, and it repeats in several places on the fuselage and the wings. Sprayed markings have two practical advantages over decals: no glossy film appears around the motif, that is no silvering, and the paint sits well even on a matte and broken-up surface. This set is therefore meant above all for modelers who want the markings to be part of the paintwork rather than an adhesive layer on top. The name of the set refers to the Skyhawk type in general, not to a particular subversion.
The surface has to be perfectly dry and smooth, otherwise the paint will run underneath. Transfer the mask into place and press it down all the way around; on a broken-up surface work in stages. Spray a light base first, so that the final color covers even over dark camouflage, and only then the individual colors of the marking. Spray in thin coats at right angles to the surface, so that the paint does not get under the edge. Once dry, take the mask off with tweezers at a shallow angle. It is a good idea to cover the rest of the model with tape or masking putty.
This is an accessory for the build. The aircraft model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
