An injection-molded plastic kit of the two-seat F-100F Super Sabre in the large 1:32 scale. The large scale allows detailed work on the cockpit, the landing gear bays and the engine nozzle, and the finished model has a striking presence in a display case. Trumpeter issues the whole Super Sabre family in several scales, and this item is the two-seat F version.
The North American F-100 Super Sabre belonged to the so-called Century series and was the first production fighter aircraft of the US Air Force able to exceed the speed of sound in level flight. A jet engine with an afterburner powered it, and the wing had a pronounced sweep. The F-100F version is a two-seater: it has a lengthened forward section of the fuselage with tandem seats and, against the single-seat versions, reduced gun armament. Besides training it served combat tasks as well, among others as the first carrier of the suite for suppressing ground air defenses and in the role of a fast forward air controller.
In a large scale it pays to proceed from the cockpit: paint and accent both seats, the instrument panels and the side consoles before you close the fuselage. Fill and sand the long fuselage seams, or they will show up under a gloss finish. The metal areas of the rear fuselage respond well to lacquer metallics on a smooth, perfectly polished base, laid on only after the rest of the painting, because they mask and overspray badly. Mask the glazing of the cockpit with self-adhesive masks and paint it together with the fuselage, so that the frames match. Lay the decals on a gloss base and use a decal softener.
