An accessory for the cockpit of the F-16C fighter in 1:32 scale from the manufacturer Quinta Studio. It is not a model of the aircraft nor a part of one in plastic. It is a decal with a formed, three-dimensional relief that is applied to the plastic cockpit parts from the base kit and replaces the hand painting of instrument panels, side consoles and other interior surfaces. The accessory is designed for one specific kit, which the name states, so check before you buy that it matches the model you are building.
A classic decal is a flat print. This type has its carrier layer formed into a relief, so that once applied the knobs, levers and instrument bezels have real height and cast shadows of their own. The colors are printed at the factory, including the dials and the lettering, which would be very difficult to paint by hand at this scale. The result is seen best on models with an open canopy, where the interior is permanently in view.
First clear the surfaces the decal will go onto of flash and spray them with a dark base, so that any gaps between parts do not shine through as plastic. The surface has to be smooth and glossy; matte varnish traps bubbles underneath. Cut the parts off one at a time, leave them for about fifteen seconds in lukewarm water and slide them off the backing paper with soft-jawed tweezers. They have no adhesive layer of their own and hold on the gloss varnish; a decal softener and a setting solution do not belong here, as their chemistry attacks the printed resin. Once dry, leave the surfaces undisturbed for an hour and only then unify the whole cockpit with matte varnish. Finish and check the cockpit before you close the fuselage, because once it is glued you cannot get inside.
This is an accessory for a cockpit, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
