Pre-cut masks for the cockpit of the carrier-based Hornet fighter in 1:32 scale, including the frame around the head-up display.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Hornet joined the US Navy in the 1980s as a replacement for several older types at once. It handled the fighter and the attack role without conversion, and its twin vertical surfaces, canted away from each other, became a recognition feature of a whole generation of carrier aircraft. It served on carrier decks for decades and in many countries it flies to this day.
The cockpit consists of a fixed front section and a large one-piece canopy that lifts to the rear. Inside, right behind the windscreen, stands one more transparent element: the combining glass of the head-up display. Modelers commonly glue it in at the very end and forget that the frame around it is meant to be dark and, above all, that it must not be fogged after the cockpit has been sprayed. The pre-cut set deals with the surroundings of the display together with the rest of the glazing, so the transition between the windscreen and the instrument panel does not have to be finished off with a brush.
The package covers the glazing from the outside and from the inner side. On a one-piece canopy, which on a displayed model is usually left open, inner masking carries particularly great weight, because everyone who meets the model looks inside. This economy variant holds no insignia masks and no decals.
The subject was the kit by Academy in 1:32 scale. On a model from another manufacturer, check the position of the inner frame, as the individual versions of the machine differ around the display.
