A large injection-molded plastic kit of the American carrier-borne fighter Vought F-8E Crusader in 1:32 scale from Trumpeter. The model represents the multirole F-8E version with its characteristic variable-incidence wing. The large scale brings a richly detailed surface, a detailed cockpit and a range of external stores. The Crusader was one of the first genuinely supersonic carrier fighters. An unusual feature of the design was the variable-incidence wing: its angle of incidence was raised for takeoff and for landing on the deck without changing the attitude of the fuselage, so the pilot had a better view on approach. The F-8E was a multirole aircraft with a more powerful engine, a new radar and underwing pylons for guided missiles. The Crusader saw heavy use in the fighting over Vietnam.
In the large 1:32 scale, paint and pick out the cockpit and the ejection seat first, and close the fuselage only after that. Glue the canopy glazing with canopy glue and protect it with masks. Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic. Decide in advance whether to show the wing in the raised position. Apply a gloss clear coat before the decals and pick out the panel lines with a wash. Fit the external stores only after painting, and keep the weathering on the gray and white naval schemes restrained.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
