An injection-molded plastic kit of the improved version of the American carrier fighter Grumman F8F-2 Bearcat in the large scale of 1:32 from the manufacturer Trumpeter. Compared with the previous F8F-1 version, the dash two differs above all in a taller rudder, a modified engine and its armament. The large scale allows a detailed cockpit and an engine section with the radial engine. Check the exact contents of the package and the number of marking options in the manufacturer's instructions.
The F8F-2 was the more developed variant of the Bearcat. It was given a Pratt and Whitney R-2800 engine with a better supercharger for performance at altitude, and its most conspicuous recognition feature was a markedly taller vertical tail surface. The fixed armament consisted of four twenty-millimeter cannon and the aircraft had the ability to carry bombs and rockets. The Bearcat was one of the last purely piston-engined carrier fighters of the US Navy.
Paint and highlight the cockpit and the engine before the fuselage is closed up. Mask the clear glazing and glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic. Lay the glossy dark blue naval finish on with an airbrush over a primer, apply the decals over a gloss varnish and highlight the panel lines lightly with a wash. On large sets Trumpeter often supplies rubber tires and small photo-etched parts to refine the detail; the tires can be replaced by resin ones for a more accurate shape.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
