About product

A three-dimensional interior decal, 1:32 F/A-18A (Quinta Studio)

This is an accessory set, not a model of the aircraft. Quinta Studio prints the interior elements three-dimensionally and already in color onto decal paper. The instrument panel, the side consoles, the control panels and the seat belts therefore have real depth and legible lettering, and painting tiny dials falls away. In the large 1:32 scale the cockpit is roomy and the difference between bare plastic and a detailed interior shows at first glance.

The real subject

The F/A-18 Hornet is a twin-engine carrier-borne multirole aircraft with a wing with folding tips and two vertical tails. The A version is the single-seat form of the first production generation of the type, that is a machine with the cockpit equipment of its day, which differs from the later upgraded versions. For a modeler that means one thing only, but an important one: the interior set has to be chosen according to the particular version, otherwise the cockpit will look as though it came from a different machine.

Application tips

Quinta three-dimensional decals are printed on a decal backing paper: the part is dipped briefly in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slid off the paper. They have no adhesive layer of their own and hold on gloss varnish, so spray the cockpit first, let the paint cure thoroughly and go over the surface with gloss varnish; a matte base is a mistake. Do not use a decal softener or a setting solution at all, as their chemicals would damage the printed resin layer. The particular procedure is given in the instructions enclosed with the set. Pick the parts up with smooth-jawed tweezers, seat them dry, fine-tune the position and only then press them home. Do not paint over the relief; at most bring it out with a dark wash into the recesses and put a drop of clear gloss varnish on the displays for a glass effect.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of the Hornet in the large 1:32 scale
  • Modelers who do not want to hand-paint instruments and lettering
  • Those building the model with the canopy open
  • A replacement for, or a complement to, photo-etched interior sets

This is not a kit of the aircraft but an accessory set. The base model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is an accessory set of three-dimensional interior decals. The Hornet kit in 1:32 scale has to be bought separately.

On this type the manufacturer also makes a smaller equivalent of the set designated Small version. This item is the basic set without that designation; the exact extent of the two is given in the instructions for the particular variant.

By a brief dip in lukewarm water: the part is slid off the backing paper onto a painted surface gone over with gloss varnish, on which it holds. Do not use a decal softener or a setting solution at all, as they would damage the printed resin layer. The exact procedure is given in the instructions enclosed with the set.
