Responsibility details are not available.
A multimedia kit of the Focke Achgelis Fa 330 Bachstelze (wagtail) rotor kite from the manufacturer FLY. The set combines injection-molded plastic with resin parts and photo-etched metal, rounded out by a decal sheet; it is a short-run kit suited rather to more experienced builders. The small subject in the larger 1:32 scale shows off the fine detail of the tube frame and the rotor.
The Fa 330 was a single-seat unpowered rotor kite that was towed behind a submarine in the Second World War. Lift came from a freely autorotating three-blade rotor, and from the raised seat the observer gained a far wider view of the sea than from the deck of the boat. The structure was deliberately simple, demountable and without an engine.
Prepare the resin and photo-etched parts in advance: wash off the mold release agent, cut off the casting blocks and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue. The open tube frame calls for careful dry-fitting and for the joints to be reinforced. An airbrush with a fine primer will handle the painting; tie the rotor blades and the frame together with matte shades and bring them out with a fine wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
