A masking set for the landing gear bays of a Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIb model in 1:32 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Hawker Hurricane was a British fighter of the Second World War and the Mk.IIb version is one of its later stages of development. On the Hurricane the landing gear retracts from the wing toward the fuselage, so the bays in the wing are extensive and on a finished model they can be seen into well. That is exactly why they are built and painted separately, not together with the surrounding surface.
The inside of a landing gear bay usually has a different shade on a model from the surrounding surface, and the boundary between them runs around an irregular opening. Masking it with tape means cutting small strips and folding them into a curve; it is lengthy and it rarely comes out the same on both wings. The masks in this set are cut to the shape of the bay, so all you have to do is seat them and press them down.
First paint the inside of the bay and let the paint cure. Only then seat the mask on a dry and degreased surface, press the edges down and spray the outer surfaces of the model; otherwise the paint flows inside and the shade in there is spoiled. Spray in thin coats and take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, while it comes away without resistance. Tweezers and a toothpick serve better than a fingernail for lifting the edge.
A masking set is supplied. Paints, thinners and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
