About product

Hurricane Mk.IIb - double-sided glazing masks, 1:32

A set of masking templates for the glazing of the cabin of a model of the Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIb in 1:32 scale. Against the ordinary version of the masks this one is cut for both sides of the clear part - for the outer surface and for the inner one. That is the main difference the set exists for.

What masking both sides changes

A real cabin has its frame painted on both sides, and the colors differ in doing so: on the outside the outer camouflage, on the inside the shade of the interior. Anyone who sprays only the outside gets a frame that, seen into the cabin, is clear with the outer shade showing through, and in 1:32 scale that is impossible to miss. The Hurricane has a canopy with marked division, the cabin is large and the interior of the model is clearly visible through the open opening. The double-sided set deals with this shortcoming by giving the inner side of the frame a mask and a shade of its own.

The procedure has its order

The inner mask has to be stuck on and sprayed before the glazing is fitted onto the fuselage and before it is glued in. Once it has dried, the work goes on with the outer side. When that is finished too, the clear part is set on the model. Anyone who got it muddled and fitted the glazing prematurely will no longer do the inner side.

Tips for sticking on and taking off

Stick the template onto a clean and degreased clear part, press the edges home with the blunt tip of tweezers and spray in thin coats, so that no step forms on the frame. Take the mask off only once the paint has dried, and rather by pulling along the surface than straight up - clear plastic is sensitive to a scratch.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of the Hurricane with the canopy open or slid back
  • Modelers who are bothered by a clear frame when they look into the interior
  • Those who fit the cabin out and want it to be seen
  • Everyone who builds in a large scale, where the inner side of the frame is legible

FAQ

An ordinary set covers only the outer side of the glazing. This one is cut for the inner side as well, so the frame gets the interior shade on the inside too.

First the inner side of the glazing, which is sprayed and left to dry, then the outer side, and only at the very end is the clear part fitted onto the model.

Only once the paint has dried, and rather by pulling along the surface than straight up. Use the blunt tip of tweezers, not the edge of a knife.

With a closed canopy the inner side of the frame is visible substantially less, so the benefit is smaller. It shows in full on a model with the canopy slid back or open.
