Die-cut masking films for the two-seat Ilyushin Il-2M ground-attack aircraft in a large scale. The cockpit is masked both from the outside and from the inner face, and a pair of stencils lets the red stars be sprayed instead of applying a decal.
Responsibility details are not available.
The single-seat Ilyushins paid a cruel price in 1941 for having nobody to cover their tail. The design bureau therefore returned a second seat to the fuselage and fitted it with a flexible 12.7 mm machine gun. The Il-2M that resulted became the most widespread form of the machine in the first half of the war. The gunner sat outside the armored tub, on a canvas strap instead of a seat, and his losses exceeded those of the pilots many times over.
The cut covers the glazing of the cockpit as well as the gunner's glazed fairing, and does so from both faces. Two national insignia stencils are enclosed. Decals are not among the stated contents.
A double set of parts has a practical point. On Soviet machines the inner face of the frames is painted in the light blue-green cockpit shade, the outer face in camouflage. Apply the inner stencils first, then, spray the whole part in the interior color and let it dry. Only after that do the outer pieces follow. Anyone who reverses the order has to paint the cockpit over a surface that is already finished and risks the solvent damaging the joint. The frames inside also tend to be narrower, so the pieces are placed with tweezers, not with fingers.
