Hinomaru masks with a white outline for the Nakajima Ki-44 in 1:32 scale. The insignia is built up in two sprayings, a white ring and a red center.
Responsibility details are not available.
A masking rendition for insignia in which a white ring surrounds the red disc. The outline appeared where red would be lost on a dark green upper surface, and typically on machines committed to the defense of the home islands. Compared with the version without an outline the spraying runs in two stages, and the reward is perfectly concentric circles, which from a decal often come out crooked.
The Ki-44 served with army units over Japan, where it met high-altitude bombers. Some machines received unusually heavy armament: large-caliber cannons with a low muzzle velocity, counted on for a single effective hit on a large target. The silhouette of the aircraft is unmistakable: a short fuselage, a small wing area and a wide cowling ring over the radial engine.
The procedure is the opposite of what you would expect. First the white is sprayed over the whole area of the outer circle, then, once it has dried, only the center is uncovered and the red goes into it. The white has to cover fully, otherwise the green shows through it and the resulting red turns gray. Leave a long enough pause between the layers, so that the lower color is not torn away when the center is uncovered.
A model of the Ki-44 is not included, as the set deals solely with spraying the markings.
