1:32 Ki-84 Hayate: Dead Design masks for the outer frames of the sliding canopy of the Japanese army fighter.
Responsibility details are not available.
The die-cut shapes from Dead Design follow the glazing frames of the Nakajima Ki-84 in 1:32 scale. They save time exactly where the overall impression of a finished aircraft is most often spoiled: on the boundary between the clear pane and the painted frame. Instead of patiently slicing strips of tape under a magnifier you stick down a ready outline and go to spray.
The Imperial Japanese Army Air Force listed the Ki-84 Hayate as the Type 4 Fighter, and it was the highest-performing production fighter Nakajima delivered during the war. It was powered by the eighteen-cylinder Homare and its armament was split between the wing and the area above the engine. The cockpit is formed by a sliding cover with glazing drawn back to the rear, which improved the pilot view: for the modeler, however, it means a long row of frames that have to end sharply.
Wipe the glazing beforehand with a lens cloth, so that no greasy film from the fingers stays on it. Do not use polishing fluid; remnants of wax would lift the edge under the mask. Seat the individual shapes dry, check the fit and only then press them down. Any offcuts left over in the set are useful for plugging the cockpit opening, so that no overspray gets inside.
