1:32 Ki-84 Hayate In and Out: a masking set for the canopy frames from both sides, from the Dead Design brand.
Responsibility details are not available.
Compared with the basic variant of the same machine, this set adds shapes for the inner surface of the glazing; the name carries the designation for the inside-and-out rendition. The frames therefore get paint from both directions and the canopy of the Hayate stops looking like a transparent shell with a grid painted on it.
The Hayate entered service only at the end of the war, when Japanese industry was struggling with the quality of fuel and of production parts. Where a machine got a good engine and proper maintenance, it was among the most dangerous opponents of Allied fighters over the Philippines and over the home islands. The sliding part of the cover could be moved back on rails, so a model with an open cockpit is the usual and rewarding solution with this type.
Apply the inner shapes first and spray them with the interior shade. Only then turn the part over, seat the outer masks and add the camouflage. Give the finish at least a day between the two rounds, otherwise the second mask will pull a coat that is still soft away. Lift the shapes with a pull along the frame, not at right angles away from the glass; a perpendicular pull strains the edge of the finish and peels it off. Any remaining adhesive residue comes off with a cotton swab lightly dampened with soapy water, as solvents do not belong on clear plastic and fog it within moments.
