The set contains masks cut to the outline of the clear parts of the Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 model in 1:32 scale. It is an aid for painting; the model is not included in the package. The single-sided designation means that the set is intended for masking from the outside. Anyone who also cares about the frames visible from inside the cockpit should reach for the double-sided variant of the same set. The E-3 version has its own set because its canopy differs in shape from the later versions of the E series, so the sets are not interchangeable.
The real subject
The Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 was among the first large-production versions of the E series. It had a liquid-cooled Daimler-Benz DB 601 engine with direct fuel injection, narrow-track landing gear attached to the fuselage and an angular divided canopy hinged to the side. The E series was the most widespread variant of the type in the first years of its service.
Wash and degrease the clear part first, otherwise the mask will not hold. Lift the masks off the sheet with a point or tweezers and seat them so that the edge lines up with the frame; work the pressure from the center toward the edges. Go over the edges once more with a toothpick, because that is where the paint runs under most often. Spray in thin coats and preferably in several passes; a heavy application tears when the mask is lifted. Lift the mask once the paint has dried, while it is not yet fully cured, and remove any glue residue with a mild product that will not attack clear plastic.
