An injection-molded plastic kit of the tropicalized version of the Messerschmitt Bf 109F-4 fighter in the attractive 1:32 scale from the Japanese brand Hasegawa. The large scale allows a rich rendering of the details of the cockpit and of the powerplant. A seated pilot figure is included as well, so the model can be displayed as a scene with a crewman.
The Bf 109F is among the high points of the development of the early versions of the type. Compared with the E series it received an aerodynamically cleaner fuselage, rounded wingtips and a more powerful Daimler-Benz DB 601 engine. The tropical conversion (Trop) with a dust filter on the intake and desert equipment was meant for service in North Africa, where these machines flew with Luftwaffe units during the fighting of 1942.
Use a thin cement for plastic, which wicks into the joints and does not clog the surface. A primer and an airbrush are recommended before painting, for smooth transitions in the desert camouflage. It is worth painting the cockpit and the engine before closing the fuselage. The engraving and the panel lines are picked out with a thin wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
