MiG-15bis in 1:32 scale — a 3D textured interior on decal paper

An accessory to a plastic kit, not a model. The instrument panel and the other cockpit elements are printed in a 3D texture onto decal paper and applied to the model as a wet decal. You therefore do not have to paint dials or glue layered photo-etched parts — the colors, the shadows and the lettering come finished from the factory. The set is cut for the Trumpeter kit.

The tight cockpit of the early jet generation

The cockpit of the MiG-15 is narrow, deep and very enclosed. The panel is relatively small and clear, dominated by round instruments divided into groups, a gunsight sits above it and on the sides there are short consoles with the engine and fuel controls. The cockpit includes an ejection seat with belts. The interior used to be in a dark shade, which is favorable for a decal — a printed panel on a dark base blends in optically with its surroundings and does not look like stuck-on paper.

Small elements, clean water and a calm hand

With small instrument faces haste does the most damage. Use clean lukewarm water and change it as soon as residues of adhesive from previous decals are left in it — cloudy water leaves glossy marks on the surrounding paint. Carry the elements on the tip of a damp brush, not with tweezers, which will crush the thin paper. Draw the surplus water off with the corner of a paper tissue laid beside the element, never by wiping across it. And before you start, let the painted interior really cure; a decal will imprint itself into soft paint.
