This turned metal part from the Polish brand Master replaces the plastic pitot tube on the nose of a model of the MiG-23 fighter in 1:32 scale. The manufacturer's designation states that the set covers all variants except the MLD version, for which a separate part is made. It is not a kit but a single accurate part that fundamentally changes the impression a finished model makes.
The MiG-23 was a Soviet single-engine fighter with variable geometry wings, that is, with a wing whose sweep was set in flight according to the regime. The pitot tube on the nose senses dynamic pressure for calculating speed and tends to be combined with angle of attack sensors. That is precisely why it is slender, long and stepped in diameter, a shape that is cast in a mold only with difficulty.
A thin plastic part tends to be bent by the parting line of the mold already in the kit, and often breaks while the flash is being removed. A metal tube is straight, concentric and will survive being caught by your sleeve while carrying the model. Cut the plastic spike off at the root, drill a hole in the nose to suit the diameter of the pin and glue the part in with super glue, ideally gel, which will not run into the finish. Before gluing, check against a drawing that the tube points exactly along the axis of the fuselage, because a part set at an angle is visible from a meter away. Degrease the metal before painting and use a primer for metal. The steps between the individual diameters are rewarding to bring out with a thin wash.
This is an accessory for building a model, not a kit in its own right. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
