The name places the set with the control surfaces, that is with the rudder, elevator and ailerons, and it names two late versions of the aircraft outright, which match in shape in those places. The extent of the set, the number of parts and the material of the carrier are not stated here, so keep to the instructions in the package.
The A6M5 was a late production version of the Mitsubishi A6M Reisen carrier-based fighter with a reworked wing with shortened rounded tips and with individual exhaust stacks meant to add some thrust. The A6M7 followed on from it, received a strengthened structure and a pylon under the fuselage, so that it could take on attack duties as well. Both versions carry over from the older machines of the range the fabric covering of the rudder, elevator and ailerons, which differs in surface from the metal skin of the rest of the airframe.
At a large scale every needless thickness of finish gives the sprayed line away. Spray thin coats only, therefore, ideally three or four passes instead of one generous one, and give the paint time between them. A heavy coat builds a ridge at the edge of the mask that stays as a step you can feel after removal, and against the light it shows even under a matte clear coat. Keep the thinning rather on the thin side and make up for it with the number of passes rather than with pressure. Hold the airbrush at right angles to the edge of the mask and never at a shallow angle under it, or you will literally blow the paint under the film. Before masking, let the previous shade mature properly, as fresh paint easily takes an impression under an adhesive layer.
