A masking set for the glazing of a model of the Japanese carrier-borne torpedo bomber Nakajima B5N2 Kate in 1:32 scale, for the rendition with an open cockpit. Meant for Infinity kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Nakajima B5N2, listed by the Allies under the code name Kate, was a Japanese carrier-borne torpedo bomber of the Second World War. The crew of three sat in tandem under long glazing, a radial engine provided the power and the wing folded for stowage on a carrier. The B5N2 is the later, higher-performing rendition of the machine.
The long cockpit of the Kate has many panes and frames, and in 1:32 scale every crooked edge of the spraying is visible at first sight. The die-cut masks follow the shape of the individual windows, so the frames come out straight without the slow trimming of tape. The set is built for an open cockpit, that is, for a model with the canopy sections slid back, where the inner surfaces of the glazing are visible as well. According to the name it is cut for Infinity kits; on another kit the shape of the windows need not match. The exact range of the sheet is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Wash the clear part first and let it dry completely, so that no greasy film stays on the surface. The masks are applied before spraying. Transfer them with the tip of a knife or with tweezers, lay them in place and press the edges down with a toothpick, because paint creeps exactly under an edge that has not been pressed home. Spray in several thin coats instead of one heavy one. Once the paint has dried, lift the masks so that they do not pull the edge of the spraying away with them.
For modelers who are building the Kate in 1:32 scale from the Infinity kit and want to display the cockpit open. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
