The model represents the early production B version with its rearward-glazed cockpit and full fuselage spine, the so-called razorback. The large scale brings a richly detailed surface and a detailed cockpit and engine. Check the exact package contents and the decals against the manufacturer's part number for this item.
The key change that turned the Mustang into a first-class fighter was the installation of the British Rolls-Royce Merlin engine built under license by Packard (the V-1650). The P-51B was one of the first versions to bring that combination, and it gained high performance at altitude. Thanks to its long range with drop tanks, the Mustang escorted bomber formations deep over enemy territory. The early versions still had the full spine behind the cockpit and were armed with four heavy machine guns in the wings.
In the large 1:32 scale, paint and pick out the cockpit and the engine first, and close the fuselage and the cowling panels only after that. Glue the canopy glazing with canopy glue and protect it with masks. Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic. Apply a gloss clear coat before the decals and pick out the panel lines with a wash. Fit the drop tanks and any external stores only after painting. A natural metal finish calls for a smooth base and a thoroughly stirred metallic paint, and the bold invasion stripes are best sprayed over masks.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
