On a single 1:32 sheet a Mustang with a full rear fuselage stands beside a Mustang with a bubble canopy. The older of them, number 43-12375, carried the name Bonnie B II and belonged to Captain Donald M. Beerbower of the 353rd Squadron. The younger, number 44-73264 with the code CY and the letter U, was called Gunfighter.
Responsibility details are not available.
Having two development stages on one sheet is practical for the builder: it makes it possible to compare how the Mustang changed during the war. The older form keeps a full fuselage decking behind the cockpit and a canopy that slides backward; the later one received a bubble canopy and a cut-down rear fuselage, which opened up the pilot's all-round view. Each of these two forms is represented on this sheet by one machine.
The first aircraft is a P-51B-1-NA of the manufacturer's designation NA102, serial number 43-12375. It carried the name Bonnie B II and its pilot was Captain Donald M. Beerbower, nicknamed Buzz. He served with the 353rd Fighter Squadron, which came under the 354th Fighter Group of the Ninth Air Force. That group is usually described as the first to take Mustangs into action in Europe.
The second subject is a P-51D-25-NA of serial number 44-73264 with the fuselage code CY and the individual letter U and the name Gunfighter. The machine belonged to the 343rd Fighter Squadron of the 55th Fighter Group, that is, to a different unit and a different period of service than the first aircraft.
The two versions need different kits. The difference is not only in the canopy but also in the shape of the rear fuselage and in the layout of the armament, so one box of plastic parts will not do for both subjects.
The printed waterslide sheet is supplied on its own, with no plastic parts and no paints.
