A full photo-etched set for the inner spaces of a model of the Panavia Tornado IDS combat aircraft in 1:32 scale. It is not a kit of the aircraft but a detail accessory with which you replace and complete the plastic interior parts in the base model. The set belongs to the full photo-etched line, that is to the more extensive variant with a greater range of parts, as opposed to the smaller pre-painted Zoom type set, which concentrates on the most visible part of the cockpit only.
The interior is clearly visible in 1:32 scale, because the cockpit is large and the canopy is often built slid back. Injection-molded plastic cannot capture the thickness of the control panels, consoles, buckles and frames, which in reality are as thin as sheet metal. Photo-etched parts respect that thickness and add detail that plastic lacks. The result is a cockpit that takes a close look and even a detail photograph.
The Panavia Tornado IDS is a two-seat combat aircraft with a variable-geometry wing, developed by an international consortium and powered by a pair of turbofan engines with afterburners. The IDS version is intended for strikes against ground targets and for penetration at low level, which is matched by its extensive onboard equipment and the layout of its two-seat cabin with separate stations for the pilot and the operator. The aircraft served with several European air forces.
Separate the parts with a scalpel on a hard surface rather than by twisting, otherwise the sheets deform. Use a bending tool or two blades for bending, and bend long parts along their whole length at once. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue applied with a stick or the tip of a piece of wire, or with a thicker varnish, which gives longer to line the part up. First cut away the plastic parts the photo-etching replaces and level the area, so that the photo-etched part seats. Degrease the photo-etched parts before painting and apply a primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on metal.
The set is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
