American fighter aircraft of the prewar years and the first months of the war had cockpits in which the seat belt is clearly visible on a model. The large 1:32 scale emphasizes this detail still further, because an empty seat with no belts looks unfinished in an open cockpit. The set aims at this group of machines in general rather than at one single type.
The package holds three-dimensional printed belts on a backing decal sheet and metal buckles that form the hardware. The printed belt has a visible fabric texture, while the metal parts give the cockpit a sheen and a depth that a flat decal cannot create. The set is universal and is not tied to the kit of one manufacturer. It conforms to the shape of the seat only during application, so it copes with differently arranged cockpits too.
The belts are released from the backing paper by briefly dipping the sheet in lukewarm water, and no decal softener is used with them, as the chemicals attack the printed resin. Cut them out with a sharp blade, dip the sheet briefly in lukewarm water and slide the belt onto the seat with tweezers, where the gloss coat of the surface holds it. The material takes slight shaping, so a belt can be left hanging freely over the edge of the seat. The surface must be degreased and coated with gloss varnish before application, which is why the belts are fitted only after the cockpit painting is finished.
The set suits builders of large scales who want a cockpit finished without the laborious bending of photo-etched parts, and also modelers who are only starting with accessories and want a visible step forward without a demanding technique. The package contains only the belts with metal buckles. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
