Stencils for the Spitfire Mk II in the armament variant with machine guns. Glazing masked on both surfaces, a pair of insignia cutouts and decals, 1:32.
Responsibility details are not available.
At the beginning of the war the Royal Air Force faced a problem that is almost forgotten today: both its own anti-aircraft defense and its own fighters had to identify a machine against the sky within seconds. The answer was unexpectedly crude: the lower surfaces were divided lengthwise and each half was given a different color, so the aircraft was unmistakable from below. It was exactly the opposite of camouflage and it worked only until it became clear how conspicuous such a machine is over enemy territory.
During 1940 the divided underside was abandoned and a uniform light shade with a greenish undertone took over, supplemented only by a narrow band around the fuselage and propeller tips in a recognition color. The version with machine gun armament, which this set deals with, can be met in both states, and that is precisely why the choice of scheme is one of the first decisions of the build.
On this version both the canopy frame and the fixed rear section of the glazing have narrow bars that a brush smears. The set is cut for the outer and the inner face of the glass and two stencils for spraying the roundels go with it. Decals are enclosed.
