Armycast T-33 Silver Star, decals 1:32

A decal sheet from Armycast for models of the two-seat Lockheed T-33 jet trainer in 1:32 scale. The package holds decals only, not an aircraft model or its parts. The large scale makes the sheet worthwhile mainly because even small service markings and lettering stand out in it, whereas in small scales they would merge into the surface.

The real subject

The Lockheed T-33 came about as the two-seat training variant of the first production American jet fighter and became one of the most widespread school machines of its day. It served in dozens of countries, often for a very long time, and in each of them it was given color schemes of its own — from bare metal with bold stripes in striking colors to sober camouflage. The Silver Star designation belonged to this family of machines and is used for the Canadian license-built version of the aircraft.

How to apply the decals

The surface under a decal must be smooth and glossy, otherwise a white haze will appear under the film. Cut the sheet close to the motif, dip the decal briefly in lukewarm water and let it rest on a paper towel until the film comes free. Move it into place with a brush and soak up the excess water. A softener helps the decal to flow around the engraving and the riveting; on large motifs in 1:32 scale apply it in layers and do not move them. Finally spray the whole model with a varnish that beds the edges of the film in.
