An extensive masking set for a carrier torpedo bomber: the glazing of the long canopy from both faces and seven national insignia stencils.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Grumman TBF was a large three-seat aircraft with long glazing, a gun turret and a broad wing. That is exactly why the national markings appeared in more places on it than on a fighter. During the war American regulations moved from six positions, that is both sides of the fuselage and all four wing surfaces, to a more economical four, with the insignia remaining on the upper left and lower right wing and on the fuselage. The seven stencils in the box correspond to a machine where further markings are added to those on the fuselage and the wing, typically because one of the positions needs a separate part on account of the shape of the surface.
Besides the insignia stencils the set contains masking of the glazing from the outer and the inner face. On a canopy as divided as this type had that is essential: cutting tape by hand across dozens of straight frames takes longer than the whole fuselage build, and an error of half a millimeter is immediately visible in a large scale. A cut film also keeps the same frame width along its whole length, which is almost impossible with tape by hand on long glazing.
The box holds masking material for 1:32 scale only.
