The subject

Pin-up is the designation for a stylized female figure in the conception of the American posters of the time. Modelers reach for such a figure when they want to get a human element into a scene: a figure by a wing, on a fender or beside a standing car gives away at once that this is a display and not a model on show. The number one in the name tells this figure apart from the others in the same line.

What the figure is for

A figure gives a model its scale. In 1:32 scale an adult person comes out at roughly five and a half centimeters, so the face, the hairstyle and the gathering of the clothing can be seen on a figure, and at the same time it fits on a small base. It comes into its own with aircraft, with vehicles and on a base of its own in a display case. The exact composition is given by the manufacturer's instructions.

Building and painting tips

Before painting, wash the figure in lukewarm soapy water and let it dry, so that the paint holds. Cut the excess material and the traces of manufacture away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the area down. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts. The skin is painted in thin layers: the basic tone, a darker shadow in the folds and under the chin, then a lighter touch on the forehead, the nose and the cheekbones. Leave the eyes until the end and work with a magnifier.
