A collector figure of an American woman pilot in 1:32 scale from Black Dog. Female figures are a minority in the modeling range and they turn up in aviation scenes even more rarely, although women flew aircraft from the factories on ferry flights and worked in sporting and transport aviation as well. That is exactly why such a figure sets a scene apart from dozens of similar ones.
No period is given in the name, so the figure does not tie you to one era: you can place it beside a prewar racer, a transport machine or a postwar aircraft, as long as the scale matches. Think about where it will be seen best, ideally in a clearer spot ahead of the leading edge of the wing or at the entrance to the cockpit. A smaller figure easily disappears among the bulky parts of a machine, and with a figure that has a striking subject that would be a shame.
Paint the flying clothing so that the fabric looks soft: strong contrasts turn it to sheet metal. Choose muted transitions and bring the folds out with a glaze rather than a dry brush. Hair calls for a different procedure than fabric, because it has a sheen. It is built up from a dark base to a few thin lighter strands, never laid on across the whole surface. And lighten the skin of the face by a shade; scaled down, a face always looks darker than it does on the bench.
