What the sheet is for

This is a waterslide decal in 1:32 scale with a print that imitates a varnished fabric covering. It is applied to the external surfaces of a model and takes the place of laborious painting of the texture with a brush or an airbrush. The print is shaded, so the structure under the fabric stands out and the surface does not look flat. On large areas the sheet saves a great deal of work and the texture comes out evenly over the whole surface, which is hardly achievable with a brush.

The semi-transparent finish

The sheet is semi-transparent. The final tone is therefore set not only by the decal itself but also by the color you lay it over: on a light base the fabric comes out light, on a dark one it darkens. It is worth making a test on a piece of plastic sprayed in the same color as the model. The ultra-thin material is more fragile than an ordinary decal, but it follows the shape perfectly and once dry the edge cannot be seen.

Application procedure

• even out the surface with gloss clear varnish; on a matte base a haze forms under the decal
• cut the part out with a small overlap to match the shape of the area
• soak it in lukewarm water and leave it to rest until it starts to release from the paper
• slide the decal onto the wet surface and adjust its position; do not pull it when dry
• settle it into the grooves and over the ribs with a decal softener and blot off the excess water
• once dry, varnish over it so that the edge disappears and the print is protected
