About product

SPACE decals for the Yak-9T in 1:32

The SPACE line rests on a different principle from photo-etched sets. Instead of thin metal sheet there are 3D-printed color decals on backing paper that have real relief: dials, levers and switches stand out above the base and the color is printed in at the factory. They are fitted straight onto the plastic parts of the kit, so they are easier to work with than photo-etching and the result has sculptural depth.

Where it goes on the model

The set is aimed at the pilot's cockpit — at the instrument panel, the side consoles and the panels that go with them. The 1:32 scale suits this kind of add-on more than any other: the cockpit is large, the canopy is glazed and when you look inside you see absolutely everything. An empty plastic panel with engraved rings would look poor in this scale, whereas relief decals fill it with legible instruments.

The real subject

The Yak-9T was the antiarmor variant with a large-caliber cannon mounted on the propeller axis. Because of the length of the weapon the pilot's cockpit moved back, which from the point of view of a model shows in the arrangement of the interior as well. The aircraft was used against ground targets and against fortified points and was among the typical representatives of the Soviet Yak line.

Usage tips

The base has to be clean, smooth and degreased. The items have no adhesive layer of their own: with a damp sponge and a drop of dish soap moisten only the backing paper, lift the item off with tweezers and seat it in place, where you fix it with white PVA glue. The manufacturer does not recommend cyanoacrylate glue, and do not use a decal softener, as its chemistry attacks the printed resin. Carefully sand down engraved detail on the plastic that would keep a part from seating. Apply matte clear coat only lightly and from a distance.

Who the set is for

  • builders in the large 1:32 scale, where you can see into the cockpit best
  • modelers who avoid photo-etching and want a simpler procedure
  • those who are after a sculptural look to the instruments without painting
  • anyone interested in finishing the interior of a Soviet fighter quickly

This is an add-on to a model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

They are not released by soaking the whole part. Only the backing paper under the item is moistened, the item is lifted off with tweezers and glued on with white PVA glue.

No. The set is an add-on for the cockpit and you need to have the kit separately.

No, the color is printed in at the factory. Apply any matte clear coat very lightly, so that the relief does not fill in.

Yes, the work is easier than with photo-etching. The key is to prepare a smooth base, moisten only the backing paper and seat the item accurately the first time.
