A masking set from the manufacturer MH models for kits of the Soviet twin-engined bomber Tu-2 and its main production version Tu-2S from ICM and Sabre Kits in 1:72 scale. The set serves for painting, not for building. On a bomber, masking is a far bigger matter than on a fighter: the glazing here is extensive, it is divided into several separate assemblies, and there are many times more frames. Lines drawn by hand tend, with that number, not only to be slow but above all unevenly thick, which shows on a finished model.
The Tu-2 was a fast day bomber that established itself in the Soviet Air Force in the second half of the war. It was powered by two radial engines, had reasonable speed and range, and carried a substantially greater bomb load than the older types. The Tu-2S version was the main production form and, in successive modifications, served long after the war, and with other users as well. Thanks to its glazed nose and several defensive stations it is a type on which the quality of the work on the cockpit tells on the overall impression of a model more than on single-seat machines.
Work through the individual assemblies of glazing one at a time and do not hurry; with this many parts it pays to have tweezers and good light at hand. Degrease the glazing beforehand. Apply the paint in thin coats and always let it set; with a heavy application the risk increases that the clear coat is torn from the frame as well when the mask is removed.
