The F-14B came out of re-engining the Tomcat with new General Electric F110 series engines, which removed the operational troubles of the original powerplant and noticeably improved handling on takeoff from the deck. The aircraft kept its crew of two, its variable-geometry wing and a powerful radar with the ability to guide long-range missiles. In later service with the US Navy, attacks on ground targets with a targeting pod were added to its original fighter role.
