Voyager Model Apocalypse 1:35: a photo-etched detail set

This demanding finishing set from the maker Voyager Model is intended for markedly refining and sharpening a plastic model of the fictional Soviet super-heavy tank Apocalypse in 1:35 scale. It is not a model but a set of accessories which replaces coarser plastic parts with fine photo-etched elements and turned components. The set holds sheets of brass photo-etch, turned brass parts and plastic (ABS) rods for building tiny details.

The real subject

The Apocalypse is a conceptual, fictional Soviet super-heavy tank: it is not a machine that really existed. The detail set deals with the typical areas of external refinement on a vehicle, such as the fenders, the engine compartment grilles, the covers and the equipment mountings.

Building tips

• Separate the photo-etch with a sharp knife on a hard surface and clean the edges up with a file.
• Make the bends in a photo-etch bender for clean, sharp edges.
• Glue the tiny photo-etched and turned parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue).
• Degrease the set before painting so that the paint holds well.
