A masking set from the New Ware brand for a model of the Soviet Tu-2 bomber in 1:72 scale. It is not a kit and not parts for the cockpit, but an aid for painting. On a twin-engine bomber masking is one of the most long-winded parts of the work: the glazing is divided into several separate units and there are far more frames than on a single-seat machine. Over that many of them, a line drawn by hand is hard to keep the same thickness from start to finish.
The Tu-2 was a fast day bomber which made its mark in the Soviet Air Force in the second half of the Second World War. It was powered by a pair of radial engines and against the older types it offered higher speed, longer range and a greater bomb load. The form designated Tu-2S was the main production version and in various forms served for a number of years after the war, including with further operators outside the Soviet Union. The glazed nose and the defensive positions give the model a characteristic look, so a cleanly finished cockpit tells on the overall impression more than on a fighter.
First degrease the glazing and let it dry completely. Proceed unit by unit, press the edges down and let the paint go off between coats. A heavy application raises the risk that the finish will be torn off the frame along with the mask, so spray several times and thinly instead.
