The real subject

The ZSU-23-4 is a Soviet self-propelled anti-aircraft system on a tracked chassis. In a large angular turret it carries a four-barrel set of automatic 23 mm cannons and above it a folding radar antenna, thanks to which it can fire even at targets the crew cannot see with the naked eye. For modelers it is interesting because it is covered in small equipment: vision blocks, periscopes and headlights, that is exactly the places where bare plastic never looks like glass.

What the set contains

Film with a holographic surface takes the place of the glass of the optics on a model. Depending on how the light falls on it, it changes shade and reflection, so a periscope or a headlight behaves much like real glass and no flat patch of color stays in a dark opening. The pieces are produced for the ZIMI model of the ZSU-23-4 in 1:35 scale.

Building and painting tips

Work with the film using tweezers and do not touch the glossy surfaces with your fingers, as prints are hard to remove from it. Fit the pieces at the very end of the build, after spraying, after the paints have dried and after the model has been dirtied, so that the film does not pick up a mist of color. Paint the openings underneath them in a dark shade beforehand, because the holographic effect only comes out over a dark base. The way the individual pieces are attached is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
