1:32 Paint mask Spitfire Mk.I K9798, WZ-L is a masking set for painting a model of a particular Spitfire carrying the squadron code WZ.
Responsibility details are not available.
An SX-Art masking set in 1:32 scale, tied to the machine with the serial K9798 and the code WZ-L. It is an aid for painting a finished model; neither the aircraft itself nor decals are included.
The pair of letters before the fuselage roundel designated the squadron, and the single letter after it the particular aircraft within the unit. The WZ code was used by No. 19 Squadron in the period just before the outbreak of the war; later another two-letter designation replaced it, so the pair of letters alone helps place a machine within a fairly narrow window of time. That is exactly why it makes sense on a model to keep to the documented code and not to mix markings from different years. The letter L means that this was one of the unit's regular aircraft, not the commander's machine, which usually kept a letter from the start of the alphabet.
For modelers who prefer sprayed markings to decals. Unlike a decal, paint has no carrier film of its own, so no step or silvered rim appears at the edge, and a subsequent patina behaves over it just as it does over the rest of the surface.
