About product

Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIb, barrel tips and bead sight mount 1:72 (MASTER)

A small set of turned metal parts for a model of the British Hurricane fighter in the Mk.IIb version in 1:72 scale. It contains the barrel tips of the 7.7 mm Browning machine guns, that is the sections that protrude from the leading edge of the wing, and a bead sight mount. It is not a kit but an add-on accessory.

The real subject and what the set solves

The Hurricane Mk.IIb carried an armament of 7.7 mm machine guns in the wings, of which only short sections of barrel protrude from the leading edge. In kits these sections are either molded as part of the wing or supplied as solid plastic pins, in both cases without a bore and usually of unequal length. The metal tips have a real opening at the muzzle and the same diameter, and once glued into drilled holes they keep a regular spacing, which is the most noticeable thing about a row of barrels side by side. The bead sight mount in front of the cockpit is in turn a typical thin part that always comes out oversized in injection-molded plastic.

Fitting and painting tips

Cut the plastic barrels off carefully and level the leading edge. Drill the holes in one line and to the same depth; marking the positions with a needle beforehand helps. Start from a smaller drill so that it does not wander. Glue the parts in with cyanoacrylate glue applied with the tip of a toothpick and check straight away that they all protrude equally. Degrease the metal with alcohol, use a metal primer and leave the muzzles in a dark metallic shade, or use burnishing, which holds better than a thin coat of paint. Fit the bead sight mount only after the fuselage has been painted, otherwise it gets in the way when masking the cockpit.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of the Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIb in 1:72 scale
  • Modelers who want barrels with a real bore and a regular spacing
  • Those who finish small scales and deal with the small protrusions on the fuselage too
  • Builders used to drilling into the leading edge and working with tweezers

The set is an accessory for a plastic model. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.

FAQ

Only the short sections of barrel that protrude from the leading edge of the wing. They are glued into drilled holes, and the whole barrel is not replaced.

It carries the simple bead sight on the centerline in front of the cockpit. In kits this thin part is usually molded needlessly heavy or missing altogether.

The exact number of parts is stated by the manufacturer on the packaging of the set.

Mark the positions of the holes with a needle beforehand, drill from a smaller drill to a larger one and keep the depth the same for all of them.
