1:48 Aerial bases - Great Britain is a resin set of antenna bases for British hardware, supplied by the Firma49 brand.
Responsibility details are not available.
An antenna base is the flexible mounting on which the antenna rod of a radio set stands. On a real vehicle it is an inconspicuous but shape-wise complex part, and small items of exactly that kind tend to be simplified in injection-molded plastic into a coarse peg. The resin replacement by the Firma49 brand gives this place back its correct shape and division.
Antenna bases sit on raised places on the hull and the turret, that is where the eye slides first. They are at the same time one of the few elements that differ on British vehicles from the hardware of other armies, so their correct shape supports the credibility of the whole build. The set is aimed at the British rendition and in one size will cover several types of vehicle.
Work over a light-colored base and use tweezers with fine tips. The antenna rod itself is best made from thin wire or from a stretched bristle, because resin at such a length would snap at the first touch. Seat the base only after the main painting, so that you do not break off what you have just finished while masking. Pre-drill the hole for the rod with a micro drill bit before gluing the base onto the vehicle; on a finished model there will be no room for it.
