1:48 Lying cow

A lying cow in 1:48 scale

A figure of a lying cow for a diorama in 1:48 scale. An animal in a resting pose is a rewarding accessory in village scenes: it makes an area lived in that would otherwise be filled by grass alone, and yet does not draw attention away from the main motif. Beside standing animal figures a more natural group arises than one made of identical poses.

Where it fits

In a pasture behind a fence, in a farmyard, by a hedge along a field track or in a scene with an airfield on a grass surface, of the kind that were common during the Second World War and after it. In 1:48 scale the figure fits models of aircraft, of vehicles and of buildings in the same scale.

Painting tips

• Wash the figure and degrease it before painting, so that the paint holds.
• Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the rest off.
• Spray the coat with the base shade, add a dark glaze into the folds and go over the edges with a dry brush.
• In this scale work with suggestion rather than with detail, as a fine drawing of the coat is lost from a distance.
• Unify the place where the body rests on the ground with the terrain with a little dust in the color of the base.

Who it is for

For builders of dioramas and display cases in 1:48 scale who want to get farm animals into a scene. The figure is seated only onto finished terrain, so that it sits down without a gap.

The package contains only the figure stated. The base, terrain, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
