A resin accessory set in 1:35 scale focused on the wheels of the Australian configuration of the Land Rover off-road vehicle. It is not a kit — these are replacement parts that are fitted in place of the plastic wheels from the base kit. Wheels are in fact the part on which the difference between plastic and resin shows most: the tread of a casting tends to be deeper and sharper and the rim has no parting line running across the pattern. The exact number of pieces is stated on the packaging of the set.
On injection-molded wheels the parting line of the mold normally runs around the circumference of the tire, and removing it without damaging the tread is a long and thankless job. Resin wheels get around that problem: they are cast as a whole and the only work needed is cutting the casting block off, usually on the contact face with the road, where it is not seen. On vehicles with pronounced off-road tires, which is the case with military Land Rovers, the visual difference against the part from the box is immediately apparent.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap and let them dry — without that the paint will not hold on remains of mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and finish the face on sanding paper laid on a flat surface, so that the wheel seats level; otherwise the model stands crooked. Sand wet and do not breathe the dust. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Lay down a thin primer before painting. Do not paint the tire pure black — real rubber is more of a dark gray; a dark wash in the tread and a fine dry brush along the edges of the blocks will give it depth. Light dust pigment on the sidewalls and in the tread will settle the wheel into the terrain.
