1:35 Camo Paint Masks For T-14 Armata MBT (T-90 Style) carries onto a model of the T-14 tank the camouflage pattern known from Russian machines of the T-90 series.
Responsibility details are not available.
The pair of sheets offers an alternative to the angular scheme: irregular fields with a softer outline, such as the tanks of the T-90 series wore at parades and in the field. The shapes are adapted so as to fit the differently divided hull and the tall unmanned turret of the newer machine, so a combination arises that is not usual on the real equipment.
Russian tanks of the T-90 series have appeared from the 1990s in several versions of camouflage with large rounded fields in two or three tones. The pattern arose as a way of breaking up the silhouette at medium range, and it differs from the angular schemes in that the edges of the fields do not follow broken lines but smooth curves. On a model it comes across as less aggressive and it stands up better to later weathering.
Apply the base tone to the whole model and let it cure overnight. Then lay the masks from the top downward, so that any deviations end up in places that are not so much in view. The rounded edges call for more thorough pressing along their whole length; otherwise paint will run under them and the soft outline will smear. Spray the last shade in the thinnest possible layer, as otherwise the edges of the fields will optically rise above the surface. Once the masks are removed it is worth considering a slight blurring of the edges, which gives the pattern the impression of having been sprayed in field conditions.
