The Crusader, officially the Cruiser Tank Mk.VI, belonged among the British cruiser tanks, which were meant to offset lighter armor with speed and mobility. The Mk.III version received a six-pounder gun of 57 mm caliber in the turret, which replaced the two-pounder and markedly improved its chances against armored targets. Because of the larger gun the crew shrank and the turret held only two men, which put a load on the commander. The British deployed Crusader tanks above all in the North African campaign, where they valued their speed but struggled with the unreliability of the powerplant in dusty surroundings. After being withdrawn from the front line, Crusader chassis went on serving in auxiliary roles.
Finish and paint the running gear with its large road wheels and side skirts before you close the hull — once it is assembled you can hardly reach it. Sit down and dry-fit the side plates and the fenders so that you do not have to fill visible surfaces. A desert finish builds up well from a darker base toward lightened centers of the panels. Finally, bring the model to life with a dark wash in the recesses, with pigments on the running gear and with a fine dust filter on the vertical surfaces.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
