A Tiger I cupola with drain slits, 1:35, the second of the pair of late variants of the commander's cupola, this time with slits around the circumference.
Responsibility details are not available.
The commander's cupola of the late Tiger I, this time in the rendition with drain slits around the circumference of the casting. It serves as a more accurate replacement for the plastic part from the kit.
The Tiger I appeared at the front at the end of 1942 and the combination of the 88 mm KwK 36 gun with thick front armor made it, for two years, an opponent that Allied tanks faced only with great difficulty. It fought in Tunisia, at Kursk, in Italy and in Normandy, where the famous action at Villers-Bocage took place. Only just under fourteen hundred were built, however, which could not be enough against the numerical superiority of the enemy, and the machine was besides expensive, heavy and demanding both to maintain and to move by rail.
The slits around the circumference are a fine detail that is lost under a heavy layer of paint, so spray thinned and in thin coats. Once dry, let them come out with a dark wash glaze, which flows into them and literally draws them in. Tune the machine gun ring and the hatch according to whether you want a commander figure leaning out on the model. An open hatch also opens up a view inside, so it pays to suggest at least the roof of the fighting compartment and a seat.
