This is a Black Dog accessory set for the British Defender Wolf military vehicle in 1:35. It is not a vehicle kit but an accessory for a finished model. On light cross-country vehicles the effect is especially strong: an empty load area looks like a show exhibit, while a loaded one looks like a vehicle that has just come back from a patrol.
Behind the name Wolf stands the military version of the Land Rover Defender cross-country car, introduced by the British army in the mid-1990s. Compared with the civilian version it received a reinforced frame and chassis, revised wiring and a range of details adapted to field use. The vehicles were built on both the short and the long wheelbase and in a whole range of roles, from liaison and command car through an ambulance version to a lightly armed patrol variant with mounts for machine guns. Wolfs served in the Balkans, in Iraq and in Afghanistan, and their usual mark was a heap of cargo, jerrycans and personal equipment strapped anywhere it could be fastened.
First lay the accessories out dry and compare the arrangement with period photographs of the particular vehicle, and only then fix them in place. Painting is easiest away from the vehicle: the base shades first, then darker toning into the folds and edges picked out in a lighter tone. Dust is unified with pigments in the soil shade of the battlefield you are modeling, and the whole thing is sealed with a matte varnish.
