Pixel camouflage masks for the 2S19 Msta howitzer of the Ukrainian army, 1:35 scale carry a raster pattern onto a model without tracing by hand.
Responsibility details are not available.
A single sheet carries dozens of small rectangles from which the digital camouflage used by the Ukrainian artillery arises. Such a pattern practically cannot be traced freehand, because its effect stands or falls on the cells having sharp corners and keeping the same raster over the whole surface of the machine. The pre-cut shapes ensure that regularity.
The Ukrainian army inherited a considerable number of 152 mm self-propelled howitzers after the breakup of the Soviet Union, and after 2014 it began repainting its equipment into a digital scheme of its own. That combines several green and brown tones in sharply delimited square fields, supplemented by prominent tactical numbering on the turret. It arose mainly against observation at medium range.
Work from the lightest tone to the darkest and apply the paint really thinly, because a heavy layer will round the edges and the pattern will lose its character. The small pieces are most easily transferred with the tip of a scalpel or with tweezers with smooth jaws. Once finished, let the finish set and remove the masks gradually, so that neighboring fields are not pulled up with them. It also pays to work in smaller sections, so that you do not lose track among the fields in progress.
