A detail resin accessory from the ELEFANT brand. It represents the early version of the tow mount, that is the forged eye welded to the hull to which the towing gear was attached. The set is intended for the Panther Ausf. D and Ausf. A tanks in 1:35 scale and replaces the corresponding part of a kit. It is not a vehicle model or a conversion set; without a hull under construction you cannot use the accessory.
On tracked vehicles, tow mounts are among the highly stressed elements, so they were massive and their shape changed during production. On the Panther the early version differs from the later one in outline and in the way it is attached to the hull, a detail that shows on a model from the side and from above. For building a particular machine, the difference between the early and the late type is therefore more important than it seems at first glance.
Symmetry is critical. Remove the original kit part with a cut as close to the armor as possible, sand the remainder down and only then measure the same distance on both sides of the hull from a fixed reference point, for example from a weld or an edge. A simple paper template laid against both sides helps. Glue the accessory with cyanoacrylate glue on one side and fit the other side only once it has set, so that the position can be fine-tuned. Degrease the whole part before painting. The mount is painted together with the vehicle; what deserves weathering above all is the area around it, where mud and dust were rubbed off during towing.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted; it is not a complete vehicle model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
